Congratulations, senior! Your final year of high school is an exciting time, and what better way to celebrate it than with a professional photo session? Thank you for choosing Laurie LaPorte Photography, your New Hampshire family photographer! Here’s a guide to help you prepare for your senior photos.

Sessions are scheduled near sunset for the best lighting, and we will work together to find the perfect time for your shoot. Please take a moment to review the following Senior Photography Session Prep Guide as you prepare for our session. I am excited to work with you!

Styling & Wardrobe

  • Bring a couple of outfits to show off different sides of your personality. Think casual, formal, or something unique that represents you.

  • Solid colors photograph well but don't shy away from subtle patterns. Avoid logos, neon, and graphics that can distract from your face.

  • Choose outfits you feel comfortable and confident in. Your comfort will shine through in your photos.

  • Don't Forget Texture: Texture adds dimension and visual interest to your portraits, especially in outdoor settings where natural light plays a significant role. Mix and match fabrics with different textures, such as linen, cotton, lace, or chambray, to create depth and richness in your outfit without overpowering the chosen color scheme.

  • Keep accessories simple. Overly flashy jewelry can be distracting.

  • Consider accessories that have personal meaning: a special piece of jewelry, a hat, or a scarf.

Hair & Makeup

  • Have your hair trimmed or styled a week before the session to allow it to settle. Avoid drastic changes right before your shoot.

  • Maintain a good skincare routine leading up to your shoot. Avoid new products right before the session to prevent any adverse reactions.

  • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your shoot to keep your skin looking fresh and hydrated.

  • Clean and neat nails are a must. If you choose to paint your nails, neutral colors or a simple manicure work best.

  • Aim for a natural makeup look that enhances your features. Avoid heavy makeup unless it’s part of your style.

  • Bring a small kit with powder, lip balm or gloss, and other essentials for touch-ups during the shoot.

Props and Personal Items (optional)

  • Bring items that showcase your hobbies or interests, like sports equipment, musical instruments, or books.

  • Props that tell your story add a personal touch to your photos and make them unique.

Location Selection

  • Consider locations that are meaningful to you. It could be your school, a favorite park, or a place where you spend a lot of time.

Posing

  • Your photographer will guide you. You may be nervous about being in front of the camera, but the photographer will help you feel at ease to get the most natural smiles.

The Night Before

  • Ensure you get a good night's sleep before your session. Being well-rested will help you look and feel your best.

Day of the Shoot

  • Arrive relaxed and on time. Rushing can cause unnecessary stress.

  • Remember, this session is about capturing you at your best. Have fun and be yourself!
